Beginning Spring 2004, The Printing Port was accepted by Dr. Brian Simmons as a valid internship site for the students of Graphic Communications at Clemson University. Our program allows for students to gain experience in the everyday tasks of a commercial print shop. Currently we have our intern helping all around the company. You can try your hands at customer service (which will include estimating, writting job tickets, proposals, and answering phone calls to assist our customers), web design, and bindery work (folder, glue strip machine, cutter, etc.). We have employed six interns and are currently taking on our seventh, so we are still working to improve our program to better fit the needs and experience of Clemson University students. We have started discussion on setting up our next internships to allow for two students to come into our company. It has not been decided as of yet, but we are leaning more toward having a lower class intern (your first internship) to work in the bindery area and learn more of the hands on work, and a higher class intern (your second, or maybe even third internship) to work in a more specialized area doing such things as customer service and web design.

This will be a learning experience for both you the student and for The Printing Port. We hope to help in your growth in this industry and look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

The Printing Port
